MOLECULAR LABORATORY SUPERVISOR

For over 30 years, PRL has been providing our clients with a variety of accurate and efficient testing services. Our molecular pathology lab is growing and now has a full-time position available for a Molecular Laboratory Supervisor.

Job Description

• Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, employees and clients in a positive manner consistent with the mission and values of Physicians Reference Laboratory.
• Ensures shift coverage of the section on a 7-day basis; provides staff to other sections of the department as required.
• Plans the daily production and R&D workload to achieve timely and effective completion of tests; reviews workload and results for all shifts on a daily basis, determines and corrects any problems.
• Evaluates production and R&D processes, testing schedules and workload and makes changes to optimize laboratory efficiency and minimize operating costs.
• Supervises and/or performs tests; reviews and verifies the accuracy of all results and assures timely reporting of results.
• Ensures proper identification and handling of specimens.
• Ensures compliance to the “Critical Value” system, consults with pathologist on exceptions and problems pertaining to patient care.
• Develops and ensures an effective Quality Improvement Plan coordinated with the Quality Director, Operations Director and Director of Molecular Pathology.
• Develops and implements a preventive maintenance program for equipment/instrumentation.
• Establishes and maintains up-to-date procedures according to appropriate regulatory guidelines.
• Evaluates and/or develops new procedures as required, provides a written procedure for any new test or service, and provides adequate training for all new procedures on all shifts.
• Maintains and reviews all quality control records, reviews CAP proficiency test results and takes corrective action if needed.

Requirements
• Detailed knowledge of the equipment of the section.
• Detailed knowledge of the equipment of the section.
• Good working knowledge of performance of tests performed in the section.
• Good working knowledge of departments and functions.
• Good working knowledge of leadership and management principles.
• Good organization abilities, time management skills and priority setting.
• 4 years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, including at least 2 years experience in clinical molecular biology testing.
• Registered Clinical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP/NCA) w/ molecular concentration; or
• Registered Clinical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP/NCA) w/ Molecular Biology (MB) categorical certification.
